Feels like it was yesterday when she was born, after hanging out, eating cake and jumping on her sofa, Elli crashed at like 6:30… Thats the life! HAHA!

Its been a little quiet here lately so i thought I’d wipe the cobwebs away and post a little fun. This week carries the release of Gears Of War 2 and COD World at War, two epic games and although I probably wont get to Gears Of War 2 I do find myself listening to its theme song on the commercial, it really got my attention, so i researched it, turns out its a free download from a Denver based Indie band called DeVotchka. So here it is, have a listen, its been downloaded 185 times so far.

A few months ago we gave some money to our friends to take back to Zimbabwe to help out some abandoned children we had heard about. It was not a lot of money at all and living in the society we do its hard to believe it would have helped at all, but it did! Read this excerpt from an email I received today.

“Danai is a suburban house in Bluff Hill, Harare and is home for twenty-two orphans, seven of which are abandoned babies. The youngest baby,Tawananyasha (on Susan’s lap-lady with the black T-shirt) was found in the grass by a nearby shopping complex with his umbilical cord still attached. A couple of the children were found in sacks on a rubbish dump in one of the high density areas. The little disabled girl has just been transferred to another orphanage that caters for children with special needs. After she was born, her mother threw her against a wall to kill her and then committed suicide by drinking insecticide. The baby regained consciousness and was discovered by a passer-by.

I spent US$20 on four bottles of paracetamol for the babies as they were not well and had run out of medicine. Auntie Susan (on the left with black T-Shirt) is one of the main caregivers at Danai. One day when I popped in she was sobbing as her house had been totally cleaned out by thieves and all her and her daughters’ clothes stolen. I gave her US$20 to try and help her replace some of the essential items she had lost. She was devastated and confused but after I prayed with her and passed on your gift I could see she was so touched and encouraged. Her grandchild died recently and she has really taken to Tawananyasha and calls him “my son”.

It is very hard to find formula and basic commodities in Zimbabwe and sometimes when you do find something it is selling at a terribly inflated price. Secondhand nappies are selling for US$6 each and I was donated some form South Africa that were brand new for US$2 each. I decided it would be wise to spend the rest of your money on much needed supplies from South Africa. The order arrived a couple of weeks ago.

The following items came to just over US$50 (the remaining balance):

• Lactogen milk powder 1.8kg
• Cerelac baby cereal
• Omo washing powder 5kg
• Green soap
• Jik/bleach

After around 30 minutes of heaving, sand eating and yelling, we got Billy out and resumed our hill climbing. Oh the joys of pointless entertainment, we are planning for a hill climb and picnic for one of these weekends.

best movie ever...

Few movies send you running to iTunes to buy the soundtrack, this is one of those movies. A truely pure, enlightening tale of all things beautiful, it is filled with humor, real life meaning and hope. I am inspired to write again…

Once is a 2007 Irish musical film written and directed by John Carney. Set in Dublin, this naturalistic drama stars musicians Glen Hansard (of popular Irish rock band The Frames) and Markéta Irglová as struggling musicians. Collaborators prior to making the film, Hansard and Irglová composed and performed all but one of the original songs in the movie.

Shot for only €130,000 ($160,000), the film was very successful, earning substantial per-screen box office averages in the United States. It received extremely enthusiastic reviews and awards such as the 2007 Independent Spirit Award for best foreign film. Hansard and Irglová’s song “Falling Slowly” received a 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song and the soundtrack as a whole also received a Grammy nomination.

My hopes weren’t high for this movie but I had heard so little about it I had to see it for myself. I was completely surprised and will probably be made fun of for this but, I thought it was amazing.

Its strength was in the writing and intricacy of the story, the slow painful detail of the minute by minute play, and of course the suspense, if you dont like suspense, this is definitely not one to see when your’e alone. Yes, it does feature Will Smith but he absorbs the character well and I feel along with the great producing and well thought production, he makes you feel in touch with whats going on…

Of course I will tell you nothing of whats going to happen…
